Dual plate check valve with retainless and dual plate check valve is a very similar, the difference is whether there is a retainer
The retainerless design with dual disc check valve also provides higher integrity on high pressure, ensuring no concerns about body’s leakage.
The retainerless body is realized in cast steel, carefully designed in order to minimize the pressure drop. The basic dimensions, wall thickness, face to face and flanges, comply with the relevant API and ASME standards.
The check or non‐return valve is most commonly used in pumping stations and allows the flow in only one direction thus preventing back flow when the fluid in the line reverses direction.
The main importance of this function is twofold:
1) To prevent damage to upstream equipment that can be affected by reverse flows such as pumps and measuring equipment.
2) To prevent reverse flow after system shutdown or water hammer.
10. In a wafer connection the valve is installed between the pipe flanges and tightened to its place with the bolts for the pipe flanges.
Wafer type body is the lightest body version for mounting between piping flanges. Therefore a wafer valve use to be cheaper than other valves. Also it is fast mounting.
The retainless design means that they do not drill completely through the body of the valve to enable installation of the hinge-pin and stop-pin of a dual-plate check. Instead of drilling through, they machine out a recess.

The Retainerless type is a type which body without pin retainer holes in the body. Retainerless type check valve use carrier and screw instead of retainer function to fix the pin. This design minimizes prospective leak paths through the valve body making it a preferable option for highly toxic, corrosive, or hazardous gas chemical processing applications. Retainerless valves are also suitable for high-temperature liquid, natural gas, steam service applications. Retainerless type check valve all inserts/parts are all the same as Dual plate check valve, except for using carrier and screw to replace the retainer. Simply, Dual plate check valve is drill four holes through the body of the check valve to facilitate installation of a hinge pin and stop pin, but Retainerless can be fixed by carrier and screw and is no need to drill the holes outside of valve’s body. Model: TC8 Wafer or Double Door Check Valves have no through holes. The Retainerless special to use in industry, especially offshore or onshore pipelines, there is a tremendous concern for fugitive emissions and potential environmental concerns. Retainerless check valve design also provides higher integrity on high pressure, ensuring no concerns about leakage.
